This software tool can let IT administrators take a look at OST folders and their contents down to individual messages.
Free OST viewer tool can help you take a look inside OST folders even when not connected to Exchange servers. That can ease the burden of IT administrators quite significantly, as OST files, or the slave replicas of Exchange server folders, can contain significant amount of information. These may have to be read to take care of mail administration. The problem gets quite acute when you have a large number of mail users and many of them use another machine to do off-line work. Then the probability of OST file corruptions can lead to sync problems. Whatever the reason, when you need to view the OST files, here is a tool that could be used. You need one from a third party as there is no such software or utility offered by Microsoft.
The interface is absolutely easy to use and presents a mail reader like interface. You have a pane that lists the mail message, while a pane below that show the details of the mail selected on the listing pane. A third panel shows you the structure of all the files/folders of the OST folder. The information you should be able to read include email, contact, notes, calendar items etc. The software works with all versions of MS Outlook including MS Outlook 97, Outlook 2000, Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, and Outlook 2010, MS Outlook Express 4.0 and above, and MS Exchange Server 5.0, 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007, and 2010.
